What Is the Science Behind Cannabinoid Remedies?

July 17, 2018 by ECS Awareness

The Science of Cannabinoid RemediesGrowing up, marijuana was demonized as a gateway drug and was given a bad rap.

Who would’ve thought the day would come when cannabis would be legalized and prescribed by doctors for various ailments?

Today, there are over 2.5 million people using medical marijuana and 92% of medicinal cannabis users say it works.

Nearly half of the US has already made laws allowing the use of cannabinoid remedies. If you’re curious how a plant once labeled a harmful drug has been given the leeway to patients, then continue reading.

How Do Cannabinoid Receptors in the Body Work?

August 1, 2017 by ECS Awareness

Cannabinoid Receptors

Did you know you can thank your endocannabinoid system for helping you sleep, eat, and stay happy?

Your endocannabinoid system (ECS) is made up of a bunch of cell receptors that monitor many important processes in your body. Endocannabinoids help regulate sleep, pain, the function of your immune system, mood, memory, and other vital aspects of being human. When the ECS is out of whack, you are more susceptible to disease and other disorders.

Cannabinoid receptors in the body are the key to the success of your ECS, and your body's ability to achieve homeostasis. They are spread throughout your body in many different places and have different functions, but work in basically the same way. Read on to find out how these receptors play into the day-to-day operation of your ECS. [Read more…] about How Do Cannabinoid Receptors in the Body Work?

The Essential Cannabinoid List

June 12, 2017 by ECS Awareness

Essential Cannabinoid ListDid you know that more plants than just Marijuana produce cannabinoids?

There are over 480 different compounds in the Cannabis Sativa plant alone. And 66 of them are cannabinoids.

Cannabinoids themselves aren't all psychoactive like you might assume. Only a handful of them are. And sometimes their properties need to be changed in order to make them psychoactive in the brain.

While the classic cannabinoids found in the Cannabis Sativa plant may not be found elsewhere, compounds that affect the same cannabinoid system in the body do exist. These are called Cannabimimetics.

They have the same effects on the body as cannabinoids and could be considered cannabinoids themselves if you aren't a purist.

But the positive aspects of cannabinoids are shared by most if not all the compounds. And since you can find these compounds elsewhere in the plant world, we don't have to rely on changing laws to find them.

Here's our cannabinoid list. And it includes several plants that are not a marijuana plant. [Read more…] about The Essential Cannabinoid List

Endocannabinoid System Research: How This Science is Changing Lives

May 17, 2017 by ECS Awareness

endocannabinoid system research and scienceIt’s increasingly evident that the answers to chronic disease – disease like Alzheimer’s, cancer and obesity – won’t be found at the bottom of a test tube.

Rather, the answer is already inside us. It's within our endocannabinoid system. Research at the edge of scientific advancement has shown that it might be the key to a long, of healthy life.

Here’s what you need to know:

What is the endocannabinoid system?

Before we go any further, let’s get some facts straight. Even with the variety of limits placed on endocannabinoid system research by governments all over the world (mostly the US), we still know the basics of how this system works.

The endocannabinoid system is the collective term given to the system of self-produced cannabinoids (hence, endo) and the special fat cells, receptors, and enzymes that support them. However, the most important bit is the cannabinoid receptors, since that’s ‘ground zero’ for the effects we’ll discuss shortly. The receptors are also the parts of the system responsible largely for processing and synthesizing the effects of endocannabinoids, organic cannabinoids like THC, and synthetic cannabinoids. Relationship Between Endocannabinoid System and Cancer

March 16, 2017 by ECS Awareness

Relationship Endocannabinoid CancerEndocannabinoid system and cancer: is this the new frontier of cancer research?

Despite being demonized for decades, cannabis is finally getting the attention it deserves in the fight against cancer.

Recent studies are showing tremendous progress in the endocannabinoid system's ability to thwart cancer.

One promising line of research shows that cannabis can directly attack and even prevent tumors.

Studies suggest that cannabis may play a part in accelerating cell death in tumors while protecting the healthy cells around it.

This indicates the tremendous power the endocannabinoid system has in fighting cancer.

While there is no cure for cancer yet, the endocannabinoid system and cancer show one of the greatest lines of potential research to date. [Read more…] about Relationship Between Endocannabinoid System and Cancer
